amazing color photos, from before they were generally possible
the photographer of the Russian Tsar, pre 1911, took these pictures using color lenses in red, green, and blue - then composited now into full color images. they’re beautiful; magic to me because i never expected to see such detail from over 100 years ago.

These are so amazing. I found myself looking at them and unconciously assumint that they are pictures from developing nations and traditional cultures that still exist because of the colorizing. Then I realized that a few of these lifestyles may exist in modern times, but most of them have probably disappeared or drastically changed. I felt a little bit of loss. This kind of diversity of culture and site-specific creativity in living is so beautiful to me. It’s sad to think that much of it is lost.
