amazing color photos, from before they were generally possible

the photographer of the Russian Tsar, pre 1911, took these pictures using color lenses in red, green, and blue - then composited now into full color images. they’re beautiful; magic to me because i never expected to see such detail from over 100 years ago.

  1. These are so amazing. I found myself looking at them and unconciously assumint that they are pictures from developing nations and traditional cultures that still exist because of the colorizing. Then I realized that a few of these lifestyles may exist in modern times, but most of them have probably disappeared or drastically changed. I felt a little bit of loss. This kind of diversity of culture and site-specific creativity in living is so beautiful to me. It’s sad to think that much of it is lost.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing the link! The color in those photographs is totally amazing! Not to mention the sharpness of the photos… So very very cool! :)
