getting behind and blogging about work
ok, i’m feeling like i’m falling behind on my reading and things i’d like to write about and this weekend i’m traveling. that said i’d like to start writing about work too.
for awhile now i’ve considered that. work is huge big part of my life, but i’ve avoided the topic because i wasn’t sure yet if i wanted this journal to be found and read by folks that i work with. just writing about it will make it findable. but i’ve been moving in a more open direction in general here and i’m interested in writing about the technologies that i work on, so here goes. i work at this wizzy silicon valley startup.
as a result of that link, folks at work who monitor what’s being said about our products on the web will now read this entry (Hey Rob! Leave a comment to say hi!)
what do i do? i was originally hired to create a macintosh version of the software that talks to our home office / personal server. but the real need i’ve been filling for the last year has been in usability design - from out of box materials to web site experience - and creating the dynamic side of the web site. a mirra server gives you remote access to files that you’ve backed up, so by signing into our web site using a password you can access your files on the road or in a cafe. i’m responsible for that whole process. similarly, you can use the mirra to share big files with friends, files which are too hefty for email. we do the heavy lifting for you and let you share things with friends encrypted via our site. so far the press has been good, and we’re chugging along, and i’m super happy that i get to continue to design and create some new approaches to worthwhile problems.

I think it’s nifty how well-received your product has been.

Hey,
Great blog. Keep up the excellent work. You’ve done an outstanding job for our company, espcially in the UI area. Mirra wouldn’t be the easy-to-use miracle that it is without your design and programming work.
Rob
PS: How long did you think it would take?

Looks pretty cool. When does it come for the Mac?

the mac version won’t be soon enough, but i’m not sure exactly when. we are getting a sense that it would be really worth doing, more of an issue of getting the time to make it… we’re swamped!
