I’m interested in how your reintegration to the work world went. I find coming back to work after a retreat to be delightful. I tried something recently that’s, um… less delightful. I got the idea last summer (at Vajrayana Seminary) that it could be amazing to combine retreat-style practice with work. Several weeks ago Acharya Arawana Hayashi was in Seattle leading a ngöndro-werma retreat. I attended – practicing from 9am to 5pm every day – then drove home and worked a half-day. I work from home anyway, so this was the same setting, just after several more hours of practice than normal. It didn’t work out so well. The practice days were great, but coming home to work, I just didn’t have the energy that I needed to entirely devote to work in a focused way. I suspect 9am-5pm shamatha might lend itself better to being integrated with work compared to ngöndro. Would you share some of your thoughts and observations about the balance and integration of practice and work; mindfulness and work?
