safari feature request

ok, i read RSS feeds in the safari web browser for the most part. and here is my feature request for the safari team, all open letter style:

dear team,

please provide a preference option, where i can load a feed and ONLY display NEW feed entries if so desired. some of my feeds have tons of entries with lots of pictures. when a new entry arrives, i generally only want to see that one new entry and not have the browser get sluggish as it loads all the old entries i’ve already seen. in that mode, you’ll want a link at the bottom to ‘display the older entries (17)’ and show how many that is parenthetically, to alleviate modality errors. but filtering only the new entries would be my preferred working style.

love what you’ve done so far. thank you.

i may switch to reading these feeds in the new mail application in 10.5 to more approximate this behavior i want.

If you're new here, thanks for visiting! Please subscribe to my RSS feed and consider visiting my design-related blog and my meditation-related blog.

  1. It is time to leave the fold, just because safari has a 1/3 implemented RSS reader doesn’t mean you need to use it, try netnewswire. Also check out Camino while you’re at it. :-D

  2. ya, i used to use netnewsreader but i didn’t like having yet another app open all the time. and i do run camino from time to time. i just like safari better… but i’m crossing my fingers that safari will implement my requested feature (submitted it to the bug reporting already) or that mail.app will work like this. i’m not completely tied to safari…
